Time to pull the trigger on my swap

Hey everyone! I have been a member for some time now and have learned a lot from fellow backyard and professional mechanics. Now, it is time to embark upon my own 3.4 conversion of my 94 3.slow with 208,000 miles. She has been a very very reliable rig, but I fear the ever so possible head gasket blow that happens around this mileage. She is getting tired as she burns oil and she has worked hard giving me 90,000 miles of trouble free operation.

Time for a new heart for this old gal. I found a 97 3.4 with only 123,000 miles with no front end damage in a yard. Figured $1,125 shipping included was an excellent deal, so I loaded up the cannon full of cash......and pulled the trigger. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190870966416
As my rig is currently a Manual and the donor is a Automatic, I will be greatly challenged with wiring her up. I did purchase a 3.4 MT 4X4 ECU to go with the engine. I sure hope this will make it easier as I read this would be needed to convert my rig. http://www.ebay.com/itm/330952337680...84.m1439.l2649 Did I make the right choice to go with this engine}

I look forward to all of the help I might get as this will be the most difficult auto related project I have ever worked to achieve.

Research of the forum, here I come!!

Always nice to have another swap starting on the board.

Anyway, I think on the ecu that you bought you may run into some issues. Many tacomas have egr and runners do not. If you indeed have an ecu there that will be looking for egr, you are going to get trouble codes I would think since it will not be there.

That leaves you to change the runner to add the egr, or go with a different ECM from a runner and not a tacoma.

This is the issue that I ran into when planning out my swap, and I changed ecms to a 97 runner, manual, 4x4. I actually never tried it with the tacoma ECM so it may work fine, maybe vital or someone else more informed can chime in.

Also, sorry but 250 for an ECM is highly robbery IMO. I think I never paid more than 75 for any of the 3ecm s that I have bought. Car-part.com search for computer-engine.

If you search my build thread, there part number is in there somewhere I am sure for 97 runner. Done two swaps using that same ECM number without issues. I think the one I used both times was 89661-3d310

Thank you thank you!! I think you just saved me some major problems! Thanks for that link as I found just what I was looking for for less money, AND I found one for a 4Runner for $125. It was so late when I ordered it, I did not notice it was from a Taco. Phew!! Looks like I have been looking in all the wrong places!! I will stop shipment on the one I just bought on Ebay.

Thanks again!! This could have been a mess!!
