swapping harnesses on motor

swapping harnesses on motor
Still looking for donor engines. A couple I have come across either have an auto harness or none for my manual chassis.
I think I read that upper intake/plenum has to come off. Is this a big deal?
So I'm wondering what's involved in swapping or placing a harness on a 97 motor? Is it a big job?
The conversion is involved enough, but if I must do this to secure a good low mileage motor, then ok. Or is it asking for trouble?
Thanks,

thanks. trying to find a complete vehicle for conversion into my 93 5 speed. tough to do here. tacomas are rare and most 4runners are autos. from junkyards here, i've found a good auto motor and a blown 5 speed motor. they're both 97s. from reading last night, i need to compare the tps because they changed mid 97 and that implies a different throttle body. that would kill my idea of swapping harnesses.
really trying to find it all from one vehicle

Thanks for the help. Without the expertise, I'm struggling with the choice before me regarding two available motors.
1) Private party gave up on his transplant. From 2000 Tacoma with "about" 75,000 miles from manual truck. He would include ECU and harness from 1998 manual truck.
2) Junkyard 1997 rollover 4Runner (with auto) has 54,000 miles. I would have to buy ECU, harness, and flywheel.
No guarantees with either and money would be about the same. Both have remaining accessories. Trying to figure out relative risk, effort, and cost with these two options.
Anyone recommend reason to buy either one over the other, or know a reason that I should keep looking? Thanks

From what I've seen, I'd learn more about the compatibility of items between 1998 and 2000 as there may be some crucial changes that occured. Compatibility from 97 to 98 doesn't seem to be too bad but outside of that I'm unsure. Mines not running yet so I cannot verify... With that knowledge, I'd consider going with the 97 and source the 97 manual stuff. Or maybe that guy with the 98 manual stuff would part with that separately?
