Gremlins in the Electrical
Hello,
I have a 1988 3.0 4runner that I had a friend of a friend swap a 1998 3.4 into. It ran without an issue for a couple years, until it seemed like the starter began to go. She wouldn't crank, Id get out and beat on the starter, get back in and she'd start up just fine. After some time of dealing with the issue in this manner, the rear power window quit functioning and shortly after beating on the starter finally stopped working.
I decided it was time to start learning how to wrench on my vehicle. I replaced the starter. The rear window began functioning again, but there seemed to be hesitation with the engine cranking over. It seemed like the truck would start half of the time, other times there would just be a click (starter relay?) and it wouldnt crank. When it wouldnt start, sometimes I could wait 10 minutes and it would start. Sometimes I had to get a jump. A couple months into the new starter and the truck wont start without a jump. I've replaced the battery, and just replaced the alternator. With the new alternator, the rear window has quit functioning again and the truck still wont start. I have been scouring this forum, looking at electrical diagrams, reading about bypassing the starter relay, etc. I read something about the clutch start cancel button and didnt really understand it, but went outside, pressed the clutch start cancel button, turned the key, and the truck started. I turned the truck off and tried starting it with the clutch depressed, no luck. I came back in, and scoured this forum more. A few minutes ago I walked outside, depressed the clutch and started the truck. I turned it off, pressed the clutch start cancel button and started the truck. The rear power window still does not work.
Does anyone have any idea where these gremlins might be hiding? Its getting mighty tiresome starting my truck, driving to the store and then having to ask for a jump.
