ecu gods!
hey guys! i was recently told by gadget that the 96 tacoma ecu cannot handle boost nor does it like it. he said that the ecu retards timing when it sees boost and seriously kills power. so i checked this to make sure and as i figured, he was correct. now, my question is that this should just plug and play correct? also, i originally have a 96 tacoma manual transmission ecu. will it matter if i get an 97 tacoma automatic? i have read that i will need to fool the computer to thinking that it is in neutral which should be easy im hoping.
thanks for the help guys. really wanting to get this thing running right! so that i can bring it to the track and let you know what itll run on 41's!!!

gave him a called and he basically reminded me of something that i already know. M/T transmission ecu plugs are completely different from a/t plugs so i looked one up on car-part.com called up a reasonably priced salvage yard and have an up to 5/97 tacoma 4x4 m/t ecu on its way! now hopefully this thing actually plugs and plays!

well, ive got the new ecu, the truck seams to be running better even though i only took it around the block. but it seamed to have more power. issue is that my timing still seams to be kind of on the retarded side. im wondering what you guys are seeing at full boost? so far i have seen 12 degrees being the worst. also, i am wondering if the ecu will be learning this aswell?.
