89 pickup 3.0 to 3.4

so i got this truck for 1500, pulled the engine 1 seized piston (#4) and one spun rod bearing (#5). im tryin to decide between the swap or stay stock. i want to do it. i just don't wanna do all the work and then not be able to get it smogged... booo CA... i read alot of projects but not so much about the SMOG portion... just looking for some advise, or if its worth it... thanks

Search smog, ref, emissions, etc. and you will find tons of info.

Here are a few to get you started. As always, there is no better info than that you receive FROM YOUR LOCAL REF. Go talk to him and he will set you straight.

thanks, will do... i am $100 short, and taking the test from being SMOG certified... so im pretty sure if you modify the engine in ANY way (even CARB legal stuff) that the ref wont pass it, so the problem i was curious about was what do i do about the exhaust, mainly the crossover tube, can i make the stock 3.4 exhaust dump work W/O custom tubing? and what side do they normally (stock) collect on? 3.0 is drivers side... 3.4 pass???

you cannot modify it so no custom tubing will be allow before the factory last cat.

3.0 dumps drivers side, 3.4 passenger
