if in california, did you see the ref. yet, did you pass? and how did you wire up the o2 sensers and the vsv (evap) plug so you can plug it in to the valve assy vacuum sw.???????? 3.4 out of a 97 manual, going in a 91 4runner auto. also converting the runner to manual.if that helps.

Unless the connectors are missing (cut off, ripped off), the 3.4 engine harness has the connectors for the O2 sensors and VSV, so that portion of the wiring is plug & play. Is your 4Runner 2wd or 4wd? If it is 4wd you need the big square evap box or the ref will fail you. The 2wd Tacos still used the round 3.0 style evap cannister, up to what year I don't know.

Before you do the tranny conversion, go talk to the ref you'll be going to about that. My swap was straight forward because it was auto to auto, but there is the possibilty a conversion may be a no no. My BAR sticker has the transmission type listed on it, so just check to be sure.

I pulled the harness and ecu my self, the one connector for the valve assy. vacuum. sw. that is attached to the side of the evap can, was wired into the body harness, not the engine harness.

Its been a while since I finished my swap and tossed the 3.0 harness, but all of the emissions related sensors (O2, VSV, knock, etc..) connect to the engine harness, 3.4 & 3.0. Once I pulled the 3.0 harness from the truck I had no extra connectors in the engine compartment, except for the oddball one near the alternator wires that no one seems to know what it is for.

If you have something different, post a picture so we can see what you are talking about, and give some more specifics, like what harness and devices your are hooking up (3.4, 3.0). It sounds like you are trying to connect 3.0 VSV and O2 sensors to the 3.4 harness.

the o2 sensors i figured out, I don't no what I was thinking. I'm not trying to connect any of the emission stuff from the 3.0. what I'm talking about is the valve assy. vacuum sw. connector and wiring for the 3.4, it was part of the body harness not the engine harness, so I cut it off so I would have it. the other two connectors that plug into the vapor pressure sensor, that bolts to the firewall and the other vapor pressure sensor that is on the evap canister are part of the engine harness.

Are you talking about the vacuum related components for the ADD?
