3.4 Swap Time!
Hey everyone, my name is Billy and I have been a member of yota tech for some time now but I sold my truck before i ever really got into it. I had a 1990 pickup 3vz 4x4 automatic and i had plans for it... but the body was just to rough to work with and I was getting 9mpg so I sold it. However, i always really liked the truck and i have recently been given an oportunity to have another one! This time it's a 94 4runner, 3vz-e again but 5 speed. This truck is also a factory 31' tire truck and therefore my fuel milage should be significantly better then my old 28' tire with 31's on it. But this truck has a problem, the 3.slo is welded solid and will need to be replaced. so at first my plan was to just get another 3.0 and do some body work.. but then thoughts from my old truck came back, and i have decided to go 3.4!! After many hours of research into what i needed i have bought a 98' 3.4 from an automatic runner, with 144 thousand km's on it for $180 (guy threw in a haynes manual for that year too, sweet!) it is complete throttle body to oil pan, but does need accessories, and the harness has been cut so unless i can source another i will be doing some wiring.. but anyway i wanted to make a thread so that if i run into anything i cant find the answer to i can always ask the people who know, and i can also upload pictures as i go to help other people with their conversions (and to show off my ride!) I am on a VERY limited budget, so things will be adapted by me, and i probably wouldnt be doing it at all if i hadnt got the truck for such a good price.. free!! anyways i will upload pictures after, as they take up too much space for direct upload right now!

an easier way to upload pictures from photo bucket if you want them on your thread, upload them to your photo bucket library then select the picture and on the right there should be something that says "image links" click on IMG code and it will highlight yellow and say "copied" then go to your post or whatever and click on "insert image" which is in the tool bar and paste that IMG code in there then post away!

Awesome good to know about the photobucket trick thanks! I will post some more pictures later when I upload them. I have been busy with work but have been getting some stuff done on the truck. Finally got it moved to where I will be working on it, good the side steps and mudflaps off as fast as I could, and took a ride to pick and pull. Scored! They had a 96 4runner 3.4 5-speed 4x4, but somebody beat me to it
the computer was gone already (dang!) as was the engine harness, someone cut it. I was however able to snag the plugs that go into the computer, a throttle position sensor (mine was broken) mass air air flow meter, cruise control motor and cable, and a set of ngk wires for my Volvo for $25, not bad! Then tonight I got four skyjacker shocks (only used for 6 months) a dynonax muffler, and a k&n air filter (3.0, won't be of much use to me..) for $50! Not bad I'd say. Still got lots to do, will post pictures tomorrow, and keep everyone posted as it progresses!

So I will do the photobucket trick when I am on my computer but I can't do it from the app on my phone so I'll just have to post links until I get it sorted. Here's the truck in it's new home before the running boards come off:

And here it is after. Way better I think!:

From the side:

The cams on the 3.4 with the cover off, very nice:

The rust on the fender, needs work. Thinking fiberglass...:

And the new shocks I got. I like em' for $50

Anyway that's it for now. Sorry for linking the pictures again, just from on my phone it's tough to integrate them, and I'd rather make them available to be seen then the next time I get on the computer (couldn't say when that will be) anyway I'll keep everyone posted.
