1991 toyota 4x4 22re the truck idles at 1800rpm for 3 or 4 minutes when cold . Then slows down and idles fine and runs great.. by the way the truck doesn't have A/C if that helps.. Thanks

My idle has fits almost seasonaly. I just adjust it accordingly. I try to keep it at about 7-800. Ive driven with it idling at 200 and all the way up to 1500 and it will do ok at anything inbetween. 800 is about perfect. Look for the idle adjust ment screw, you have to loosen a nut and then turn it with an allen key, its the one on the bottom of the throttle thing, not the top.

Yeah, its actually a good thing. The engine thermostat reads that its cold, so it revs it up to warm it up...like an automatic choke.

I have a 03 3.4, and it does the same thing. When it starts, it idles at about 1300 for a few seconds, but by the time I get to the first stop sign at the end of my street, it is right where it should be. All my Toy trucks have done that, so it's normal. I wouldn't worry about it unless the idle refuses to come back down.
