ok guys on the never ending quest for cheap ways to get power and mileage ( i think that was just a big oxymoron) i would like to ask a few tuneup questions. First of all where i live in canada i cant seem to find and seafoam, is there anything i can use as a substitute, my brother used AC Delco cleans which is basically fuel injector cleaner on steroids, is this basically the same thing. Also what does a bad valve timing sound like? When im under a light load and its at a certain rpm i get a kind of really fast ticking noise, sounds kind of like an exhaust leak but it isnt. this 93 5spd 4runner 22re im talking about has 220 000 km on it and i doubt the valve timing was ever done, if this sound is a valve timing/clearance problem would this help gain power/mileage. Also my CEL is on saying my 02 sensor is gone i have a new one just havent put it on yet so this should definetly help me out a bit, but the moron who put it on last time just cut a hole in the exhaust and welded it on so i have to make a new one. Any help with these questions would help, thx guys

 

others will jump in here, but the ticking, from what i've expierienced and read, is normal for the 22re. my old 22 did it, and when the engine was replaced with a new one, same thing. as for the other issues, i'll let someone else chime in.

 

i dont really know how to explain the sound, it kinda is a ticking sound i just dont know how to expain it better. Its just that every other 22re ive driven doesnt make that sound and its only when you have your foot lightly on the gas pedal around 2700-3000 rpm or higher with the more gas pedal you use. there are 2 other 22re out in the driveway that dont make this sound so im confused.
