OK...My new 22re is running great. I've put about 225 miles on the new engine. I'm thinking about changing the oil and was hoping some of you might offer some suggestions for a good oil. I've always used Havoline 10w30, but was thinking there might be another oil out there that would better protect my new engine.

Also, I hear you should not run synthetic oil in a new engine. Does anyone have any comments on when is a good time to switch to sythetic, a recommended brand, and any other considerations to consider regarding synthetic oil.

Amsoil is a very good synthetic oil. You can run synthetic oil from the start in a new engine. Check out Amsoil website under frequent questions, it says Vipers & Corvette come from factory with synthetic oil.

 

I've heard the same thing. I forget how long.. 3-5k before i'd go with synthetic. Personally, I wouldn't waste money on high dollar oils. The 22RE loves the dino. Castrol all the way!

 

What do you think about using synthetic's in the tranny and diff's?

 

I use synthetic fluid everywhere in my cars. Search synthetic fluid and you'l find a lot of information.

 

When my head gasket blew a few months ago (big surprise, eh?), the dealer did a compression test in diagnosing it all cylinders were above 200 p.s.i. and within five percent of each other. It has 175,000 km (110k miles). I use synthetic oil and am pretty lazy with changing it sometimes 'cause it's freezing in the winter. I'm sold on it. Wallyworld sells Mobil 1 really cheap too (Amsoil and Redline is good stuff but pricey).
