Need Help Quick

OK so here is the low down I have an 89 4x4 PU 3.0 5 speed I just replaced the valve cover gaskets and the timing belt with a brand new water pump I installed everything according to my shop mannual. The truck ran fine for a while then started stalling so I reajusted the valve clearance and the idel srcew and it runs good except the radiator and intake chamber get really hot when I run the vehicle but the temp gauge inside reads normal. I replaced the coolant about 4000 miles ago so I reused the coolant and the termastat. I am guessing that my thermastat is just clogged but my dad said maybe the water pump isnt working right. That would seem odd since the pump is brand new.

If anyone has suggestions please let me know, first i'm replacing the termastat and hoping that is it. The only crummy part is I have school tommorrow and I need the truck to go camping this weekend.
Thanks Blaine

Why do you think there's a problem if the gauge isn't getting hot? Your radiator will be about 180 degrees normally, that's what the temp is for your thermostat.
