I was chatt'n with this guy at the parts store about yota's. I'm not sure if he was refering to 3.0 or 3.4's but he said check the fan's condition often. He's has seen them(more than once) blow apart, take out the radiator, and blow dents in the hood. Now, I'm concerned... Well sort or curious, is more like it. Is this a phenomenoa I should be aware of?

 

No that is not a normal thing on the 3.4. I have heard of the 3.0's doing it every now and then though.

My 3.0 did it... I caught it after it dehnted the hood but before it damaged the rad....

 

a 93 4runner we sold did that.....the owner said that just started his truck and hear a loud noise.

but i really think he revved it high after he started, and it broke the fan.
he drives it like a car.

the broken pieces put a dent in the hood, ripped up the hood liner, destroyed the air box. radiator was ok.

 

My friend did it with his 3.4.. he was climbing a steep dune in 4 high with the ac on and the windows rolled up...over revving pretty bad....the fan took out the front engine cover..the radiator..and a couple other things when something busted. I'm thinking of upgrading to flex 210.
