Cleaning Engine Aluminum?

Hey guys,

I'm rebuilding the head on my 22RE this week and I'd like to take this opportunity to clean the throttle body, intake plenum and valve cover.

What's the best way to approach this? I'm not talking about metal polish at this point; I'm talking about getting rid of some SERIOUS grime. Then maybe I'll pull out the polish.

Any tips?

Thanks,

Warren

Get a can of engine degreaser and rent a pressure washer from a rental yard. THat should get anyhing off, even old paint.

I used wheel acid dilluted 50% in a squirt bottle on the exterior of my intake and valve cover (22re). It worked really well spray on let it sit for a minute wash off with water. HTH

Oven cleaner works great. Just don't let it soak too long. It'll leave marks.
