4wd not being used for a while

i'm up in san francisco for a few months, and the runner is home in so cal. the last time i used 4wd was mid sept, and it won't be used again till mid december. i remember hearing something about how you should engage it every so often to keep it in good working order, but how long is that...is 3 months okay? i'm guessing it's okay, but if not i can always have my dad throw it in 4x4 for a little bit just to get things turning.

Three months should be OK as long as you've treated it well before that. The humid so.cal air should help, unless you're way inland towards the desert.

For the 03 4x4 guys;
My manual says you should drive it at least 10 miles every month in 4wd to keep the components properly lubricated.

My manual says 10 miles a month too.

But I wouldn't really worry too much. The vast majority of 4wd equipped vehicles on the road rarely, if ever, have their 4wd engaged. Not that this is a good thing, it is just the way things are.
