3.0 idle

I couldnt sleep much lastnight so ofcourse i was on here reading stuff. I have always thought that my runner sounded rather loud at idle 1200rpms. I read that the manual asks for 800rpms. I took it down to 800 and it made hardly any noise at all. Since im still learning the 3.0, i took it to 1000. The engine seemed to sound good and kept a steady idle. Any input on whether i should go back to 800 or what? I figure it probably isnt good for the motor to idle 400rpms above stock. Right now Il stay in the middle of the 2.

I'd keep it at 800, that is where I have mine at and it idles good and doesn't shake at the RPM.

When I corrected my timing the idle went up to about 900. 940 according to the emissions computer during my last inspection. My idle is a lot smoother now but I'm sure that has more to do with the out of spec timing than the idle speed. I've noticed my truck does run better with the A/C on if the idle is higher so if you use the A/C a lot split the difference and shoot for 900.

I adjust mine to between 700 and 800 RPM so it looks like 750 once everything has warmed-up. Higher RPMs effect your emisons and economy (MPG) more than anything else.

Well talking to you guys made me decide to adjust mine. I picked up a can of throttle body cleaner and with an old toothbrush cleaned the throttle body out the best I could. A lot of carbon came out of the intake and throttle body. I especially noticed a lot of gunk was building up on the shaft where it goes through the throttle body.

After the cleaning my idle jumped from 900 to over 1250. I adjusted it down to 750 and now when I turn on the A/C the idle doesn't drop anymore. It works just like it should - and noticably smoother too. My truck is due again for its emissions check at the end of the month and I get a computer printout with the exact idle and emissions at idle. I hope to see an improvement from last years numbers.
