I just picked up a 1978 Chinook motor home. And wanting to swap something with a little more power but still have decent mpg. Also going to need a trans swap since the l43 is not going to cut it. What would you toss in it?

 

vw tdi if you want mpg. Look up acme adapters and tdi club for info. You will have to mod the engine for enough hp and torque.

 

Ok I will take a look into. I would not mind going diesel. Just hoping will will have enough push to get up steep mountain roads. And what transmission are people during for the swap?

acme adapters use a 4 cyl toyota trans. 3.4 toyota or 4.3 chevy are popular swaps.
I've even seen a thread here on a toyota v8 swap. Lots of info out there, do your homework before you pull the trigger.
