So I have a 84 pickup and who ever I bought it from swapped out his motor with a 22re but he couldn't get it running right. He says it's a 1990 22re. But I'm not sure how to figure out how to find out what year the motor is.

The problem I have is that the motor will crank up idle fine but as soon as it gets about half throttle it cuts in and and out, almost like it thirsty for fuel. I replaced the tps , after I did some research but that doesn't seem to be the problem. I need HELP any suggestions or recommendations??? I'm a rookie trying to get into the yoda life anything helps thanks

 

Is the tps adjusted properly? Could be an afm thing too

 

I am thinking you have an 85. I sure all the 84s were carbed. Celicas had some fuel injections in 84. The motor is the same, it is the sensors that are different. Mostly the vacuum switches. Any air leaks? Check all hoses and make sure they are routed correctly and not cracked. Clean all the carbon out of the Plenum, ports and hoses.
