i wanna hot rod a 98 4 runner 2wd auto with a carb'd v8 crate...

I have a 98 4runner 3.4 with 200K miles on it and its on its last legs. I really love the platform, but want a little more power, with something thats a v8 and easy to work on.

Whats a good budget V8 swap from the engine down to the the differential for a 2wd 4runner. I had in mind a cheap 350 chevy small block crate or something.

Why...? What do you plan to do with a 2wd automatic 4runner with a 350 in it? come on... go buy a 1940s ford or something alot more logical, please.

This is my high school car and I really dont wanna part with it. An old school car is really expensive to restore and I dont have the time or money. I love the 4runner because the back window rolls down, not many cars can do this and it has chrome bumpers also a rarity nowadays. I'm not trying to be a pioneer or anything, just would like to follow a low budget build that someone has tried successfully before. They dont test for emmission in my state so that wont be a problem.

If you don't have time then money then who is going to do it for you for nothing???
If you want power you could also modify the 3.4. The stock engine can handle a small turbo or supercharger. Which would be cheaper then and engine swap and take less time. Other then that your V8 options are endless. From a Lexus 1uz, tundra 2uz, to Chevy V8 there are bunches of those. The Corvette LS1, LS2. But as with these you run into also swapping transmissions, finding or making adapter plates.
And if you have a 2wd and want to make it 4wd as well as the engine swap. I recomend then just selling what you got and buying something else. V8 4wd. Easy to work on.

What kind of help do you need? Find a 96-99 Chevy pickup/van/suburban/tahoe and get the Vortec 350 out of it, along with the engine/trans/wiring and swap it over.
