i have a 86 toyota pickup 4X4, with a 22R, ive decided i want more power. I have heard about all kinds of swaps, but the supra engine, and the 3.8 buick caught my eye.

Which swap would be best? or are there better swaps out there?

And what would i have to do with fitting either one?

 

if your sticking with gas, have you thought about just rebuilding the 22r with some upgrades?

 

many upgrades for the 22r's lcengineering.com offers weber, holly,and a sidedraft carb....also different cams to choose from and they even have superchargers for the 22r ....many many more things to choose from

 

If i were to do a engine swap again i think i would go sbc , my 4.3 gets 13 mpg. I dont think a v8 would get any worse . But it the 4.3 has just the right amount of power and fits nicely . Lots of swaps out there just keep searching.

 

thanks for the input, ive decided i dont have the money for a engine swap, so regearing and motor upgrades it is.
Does anyone know if you can run 5.29 gears with 31s and be able to go on the highway without any issues?
Or if there is a better option?
