ok this is my first swap and i've got a 77 buick century with a 350 in it and i figure that i can make my own mounts and i dont really have to much to worry about the motor fittin im more worried about the wiring and hooking the the drive shafts up
the truck im wantin to put it in is a 92 yota auto 3.0

so if yall have any input please share or if yall have any info im open to anything

also im a high school student so i dont have loads and loads of money

do you have trouble with your drivetrain?

 

you will have trouble with mounting the transmission unless your using the stock buick TH350 because of the "bunny ears" on the buick motor that makes it very hard to mount any other tranny. plus the buick 350 does not have a very durable bottom end because of the comparatively narrow main barrings (compared to a chevy 350 for instance).

 

well i got the car from my grandma an it only has 63,000 on the motor since 77 also nothing has been replaced the motor still has the paint from the factory on it im pretty sure it has the th350....so do you think it would be worth doing the swap?

 

I would put it in. Why not!! I am putting a chevy 350 with a TPI th350 203/205 doubler in my 1994 4runner. And it fits alot better than I thought it was going to. The only problem that I have ran into is the radiator placement. Cause I am putting in a 4 core to keep it cool. But if you change the water pump to an electric there is more room. Also which transfer case and trans are you going to use? Just to let you know if the th350 that is in the car if it has a long tail shaft you can just cut the output shaft down and you can bolt a np208, np205 or any other chevy transfer case. And as for the wiring take out everyhting that you dont need just mark the starter alt and go from there. Good luck!!

 

Maybe keep it in the car and sell it whole? Seems like you should be able to get at least $3000 out of that. Unless you really want to do the swap.

 

i agree with stormin94 keep the car together and sell it. should be worth a good penny having that low of miles on it and in good condition. maybe then you can do a SAS to your truck and little extras to help it run a little better

 

ok ive got an update ive got a 4.3l out of a 80's monte carlo (motor and trans) sitn in the garage that wont ever be used and not for sure if it runs and ive got the buick 350 still in the car but im for sure that it runs and drives....and ive got to put something in it b/c the motor gave out last week

Well, 80's should either be TBI, or carbureted. So any electronics should be fairly simple, and limited. Even if it's missing all the wiring harness, and computer stuff, one trip to Pick N Pull, and you'll come back with exactly what you need.

 

welll i found out that when ever my uncle was taking out the motor instead of just unhooking all the wiring he used a cuttin torch...so am i going to need the 4.3 wiring or can i just hook the 4.3 to the 3.0 harness?

Go with the 4.3 and if you cant get a wiring harness go with the Mega Squirt.

i'd stick with carb, get rid of all that fuel injection cramping up under your hood. yard it all outa that. go look under a chev hood(carb) or toyo(fuelinjk) . with your toy you can just sttart rippin out,

 

I think that you can get a harness made that will just plug into your truck and work with what ever engine that you choose. I would go with the fuel injection if you ever have had a carb that the bowl ran out of fuel. Just my .02
