Blown head gasket 94 xtracab

Just wondering about what to do with my 94 xtracab pickup with the 3.0 6 cyl. She keeps overheating, replaced thermostat and water pump, did not fix problem. Mechanic said blown head gasket and possibly cracked engine block. I'd like to keep the truck, and was going to have him do the work. Now I'm wondering if I should fix the 3.0, put in a rebuilt 3.0, or replace the entire engine with a 3.4? If so, where is a good place to find one? Any ideas/ suggestions? Thanks!

I am in the same boat as you right now. I would love to swap in a 3.4 but time and budget really wont like it at all. What did you decide to do?

3.4 swap all the way. You can swap for the price of rebuilding a 3.0
