Best Engine Swap?

I have a 90 4runner that is pushen 210,000 miles. The engine is still running strong but is leaking some oil here and there and lets face it the 3.0 3vze is just not strong enough. I would like to up my horsepower and gas mileage a bit. I was shopping around and found the same motor for 1500-2000 shipped thats been rebuilt. Whats your suggestion on this? What would be the best engine to put in my truck instead, ive heard of 350 swaps, chevy 4.3l swaps and even putting the 5vze from the newer models in it. I was hoping to keep the total bill under 3grand if possible. Not sure how much i will have to pay to have it done sense i have no idea on how to do such a swap. My truck is automatic, has 4 inch lift already. Not sure if thats important.

Non engine related question. I have a 4inch pro comp stage 2 suspension lift, i want to put on 35-36inch swampers on it. Any objections to adding a 3 inch body lift on top of my suspension?

I put a 3.4L out of a 99 tacoma into my runner for less than $1200..

Be perfect swap if you do not have to worry about smog since it bolts up to the motor mounts and the tranny..

Really easy to do if you do some research.

That would still be sweet. I have 2000 saved for the engine. If i bought a rebuild its 1800 plus core online just for the 3vze. I live in Yakima so not to far from where you were. Can you advise me of where you went for all the mounts and adapters? Id love to get that done for mine but I wont be able to actualy do it so i will end up spending more to have someone else do it for me. (im a retard with mechanics but love to actualy try doing the work)

i have a 3.0 in my 95 4runner and it is giving up on me. A mechanic told me to put a 350 chevy engine in it. Has anyone here done this?

I have and, a carbed 350 is very nearly cut and paste. It is a very easy swap if not the easiest. I would recommend the swap to anyone thinking about doing one. My first toyota had the 3.slo and there is an amazing difference, every single toyota I ever buy from now on will have a 350 swap. I am moving to texas from alaska currently but to give you an idea of the power difference I could floor the 3.0 during winter and have no fear of breaking loose and spinning out. With the 350 I cannot even feather the gas without going sideways. I had to leave it garaged all winter. You will love it if you choose to go that route.

A 350 swap would be pretty cool but I would miss the traction and gutlessness lol. That's the best part about driving in winter...I can get around when no one else can.

you can do a TDI swap or a OM617 swap if you want efficiency a bit more power and diesel.
