the sr20det is a turbo nissan engine. they r one of nissans most popular engines. popular drift engine.

my bro is swapping one into his 240sx. i always wanted to get a datsun 510 coupe and put a sr20det into it.

my bro got everything needed to swap one into his 240 for 2k which includes factory equipment from japan which is engine tranny ecu wiring harness etc nothing aftermarket tho but its from japan.

i personally would like to see one put in a truck but it will take a lot more than 2k. a lot harder to put one in a different manufacturers model

if its 2wd .. i dont see too much trouble.. some custom mounts and a driveline..
but for 4wd.. probly not.

I know it would be an expensive swap. I just cant believe no1 has even considered it. A SR20DET can push 250-300hp with minor mods and it has the torque to match.

Im not exaclty considering the swap Im just curious. Why would it not work for 4wd? Just add another drive shaft. I know the biggest problem would be the ecu, wiring, and getting the adapter for the tranny. The ecu could be programmed and the adapter machined but the wiring would be a nightmare.

If weve mastered the 350 and Vortec swaps why not the SR20DET?

you would have to make a custom bellhousing to use your current tranny and probly need a custom input shaft for the transmission to match up to the motor.. Other wise you can't just poof and add an extra drive shaft.

i was considering a supra swap and there is a guy locally who imports motors and he told me it would be cheaper and way lighter to run the nissan motor... but in order to keep my 4x4 he would import a tranny and tcase from a hardbody cause they bolt right up and still be cheaper than the supra motor that i wanted to run

i ended up going a completely different direction because of getting a freebee chevy motor... i do wish that i went with nissan for being such a small powerful motor

by the way.. this guy even puts these motors in bmw's... he has also put a 2jz motor in a 4x4 toyota pickup that ran 13 seconds in the 1/4 mile with 33's and stock gearing

so it has been considered. how about the wiring? only problem with that set up is it would kinda suck to have to use a nissan tcase and regear (probably). How much was he charging for engine/tcase/tranny?

Also include the MAJOR aftermarket support (think HKS, Greddy, etc.)
There's alot of engine support.

sorry it took so long to get back... he gave me a ballpark number of 6,000 for everything including labor of wiring and exhaust

Get the motor, trans, and run standalone management, Have a drive shaft made to fit and make the mounts. Swap done.

sr20's are nice motors. We had one in my brothers 240 it put down 475hp. 3rd gear the car would just go sideways.

The car wasn't even finished and he wrapped it around a light pole(was 15 in the rain)

I dont remember all the details but i know the car was dressed with all the jdm goodies, 180sx glass, tail lights, full remote controled tein coilovers, heads up display cluster, OEM silvia s15 lights and aftermaket fenders to match the widebody that never got to be installed, he had 3 turbos for it that he played with on the dyno trying to get the biggest #'s possible. this was 5-6years ago so all the details are foggy

sad what happened to that car, thing looked nice.
but honestly, NISSAN? go honda.. the V6 VTEC. hondas r WAY better and WAY more reliable than nissans. sorry i just have a pet peeve about nissans and oil leaks.
though if you do this swap, i will be subscribing.
