3.0 to 3.4 engine swap question

I have a wreked 97 runner that i used for rebuilt parts from my tacoma, i swaped the engine just because it had lower miles by more than half, and the tacoma engine had to come out anyway, that leaves me with a reasonably aged long block that can be thrashed without care sitting on a pallet, ecu, and a whole other truck covered with parts.

thinking about going through the old motor and giving it a go putting it into my 88 truck, i just dont want to have to buy/build a bunch of extra parts if i can just use stock stuff.......

I have been searching on and off all day for the answer to a simple question, both the 3.0 and 3.4 have crossover pipes but the 3.4 is on the wrong side,
whats wrong with just using the 3.0 crossover and manifolds? everyone seems to go out of there way to avoid using them, anyone know why? I would think that they would be bolt-up compatible and meet the flow needs just fine, only needing to weld the egr ports shut, and add an after cat o2 sensor, any insight would be helpful, do they just not fit or what?

the 3.0 exhuast is a horrible design. Not only that but i'm fairly sure the manifolds don't bolt up. The diameter of the 3.0 is also smaller.
