22R-TE and head gasket leak
Hello, I just bought an 1980 Toyota long-box 4x4 (my first Toyota). The guy swapped a 22R-E into it, but later he told me the motor was turbo motor. The valve cover says 22R-E I am wondering if there are any distinguishing makes or numbers on the block to verify what he says is true. Second I think the head gasket is going bad but am not sure. He replaced the head gasket with a 22R-E gasket, if Infact it is a 22R-TE would this cause it to leak if what he says is Infact true?
Thanks,Jack

Hey, I'm actually getting pretty familiar with the rte right now, and if you can get underneath the truck and look on the drivers side you should see a little oil drain back hole( probly has a plate on yours) it's jut behind the motor mount and coolant pipe see in my photo here
It's kinda hard to see but it's tucked in there. That's the most sure way I think that you could see if the block is an rte.

turbo manifolds had the turbo branded on it, so your saying you have or might have a turbo motor without the turbo?? Hmmmmm sounds weird if in fact it is a turbo motor and it has no turbo it must be a slug. Unless rebuilt to 22re specs the turbo motors have lower compression and without the turbo they don't run the greatest.
