im looking to swap out the engine in my 81 yota 4x4. i currently have a 22r in it. what year is the best year of tacoma engine to easily swap in this year truck. what are the advantages to this vs swapping it out for a rebuilt 22r.

The only upgrade would be a 22re its the same engine just fuel injected. the 22r and 22re is gonna be all the power a pickup will need. they are legendary haha.

Fuel injection would be great but not really worth the time.. i would rebuild the 22r. and put a upgraded carb and cam in it... I rebuilt my 22r and it runs great with cam and carb..

not really worth the time?!!! I've wheel carbed and not my favorite too much bogging and what not at wierd angles where fuel injection doesnt have that problem at all. you could do a 7mgte swap pretty easily!
