just got back tonight from Ontario, OR where my buddy, a 5VZ and i started our journey early this morning, through which we braved the frozen eternity of what was I-84 West in a 2wd tacoma mini truck.

I'm exhausted, needless to say, but the the 3.4 is mounted on a motor stand currently at the moment, and will be torn apart some time soon. Of course, i'll be back with pics.

MAN!!! glad to hear you made it back! The weather has been doing nothing but getting worse and worse- don't think this weekend would have been any better for you to make the drive.

So I made some good progress on this project recently and here are some photos to illustrate.
This is how the ports turned out after some mild widening, radius the edges to a flat floor, then transition the hump coming from the split for the valves.

Heres the block, pistons and rods are in balanced and in the cylinders, the crank is balanced & polished, unfortunately, still waiting on the con rod bearings. Thats why no bottom end. heads are torqued atleast.

Now here is the factory manifold and the next few are the transformation. Welds are pretty ugly, going to grind, paint ceramic and wrap anyway.




And for s and giggles, with no cams in, i put the intake manifold on to visualize....

 

now thats a sexy motor, wish i had one

 

Just got the crank and rods all torqued and painted the block and the valve covers yesterday, along with the the oil pump and the water pump. Working my way up to installing the cams and timing belt. Will have some pics later, have to finish stuff for finals first

The motors all done and going in tomorrow morning. I'm just waiting on the machining teacher to finish resurfacing my flywheel. Then finish vacuum stuff, fish wiring harness through firewall and finish wiring in cab, and tack weld flanges for exhaust manifold and do the new O2 sensor bung for the pre-cat one. That should about wrap it up, this has taken so damn long, but I will have some more pics tomorrow for you guys.

it all looks really good, wish i could do a 3.4 swap. but one question, why'd you go with the stock exhaust manifold that goes over the transmission. i would go with some long tubes or something less restrictive. just my opinion tho. good job man

 

I thought this was an sas thread not a 3.4 swap thread.

I think you should send me that motor and ill send you a SAS kit and a rebuilt SFA.

 

The reason I took the factory one and fabbed a new one with a driver side drop is because the factory one would run right into where my upper link for my 3 link SAS will be and the drive shaft as well. I'm going either 2.5" or 3" right off the header, with 3" through the cat and Flowmaster super 40.

That sounds like a smoking deal! Unfortunately for me, I decided to cram all of my modifications/upgrades into one king size zag and smoke it. SO the motor and trans rebuild is first, check, then the 3 link coil over sas, then the long arm 4 link rear and ford 19 gallon rear tank like whats his nutz...
It's great that I can have uncle sam fund this whole thing because its my Senior Project! Bwaahahahaha!
