New SAS Parts acquisition and Questions
Hello.
I've been searching, and haven't found all the answers I want, so here goes. I've started building up my enthusiasm about SAS on my 94 Runner by ammasing parts.
I should have a D44 front from an 73 blazer in the next couple days, and I already have a slightly saggy set of all 4 springs from a '76 Wagoneer (yet another build-up in my garage) in good condition. My question is, will the Waggie springs be ok if I get them recurved at a shop in town. My concern is whether or not they make enough room for HySteer components and such. Also, I'm assuming the rear stock V6 Toy axle that's already on my truck will work fine. Will this work, or is there an easier route. It's a budget project, but I'm not willing to save money at the expense of functionality and safety, does that make sense?
Thanks,
Andy

The rear axle will be fine, couldn't tell you about the springs though. I would just by a set of after market's, don't know about re-arching them. As far as the d-44 goes you just need to make sure you match up the gear ratio's. I don't know whats available for the d-44 that would be close to the yota's gear ratio's but hoopefully some one else will chine in and be able to help you out there. Good luck!

I've heard lots of good things about using the Waggie springs. While it is a six leaf (I think) pack, the leaves are quite thin and thus flexy. Five years ago they used to be quite commonly swapped into Toyotas, not so much anymore. As such, you should be good to use them especially with crossover steering. Since you already have them, it really isn't any loss (except for your time and labor) if they don't wok out. Maybe try them before re-arching and go from there. Another issue you may have is that your Chev D44 would be quite a bit wider (about 10") than your Toyota rear. Not too bad a problem for a trail-only rig but possibly so for a street driven one.

Good deal, I'm also going to look into a earlier Toy front unit so that I can avoid fab work involved with narrowing a wide front as it won't be strictly a trail rig. Thanks for the replies, I look forward to more wisdom.
