Front driveshaft angle

Hello. This is my first post on this forum

just did a fresh SAS on my 91 pickup with the TG IFS eliminator kit with 3inch HD springs. Had good shackle angle and when I did the alignment on the machine all the angles were pretty decent.

had a driveline shop create a custom front shaft that would bolt straight up apparently. Well it does not

the driveshaft doesn’t come down enough to bolt up to the third member. It’s as if the double cardinal doesn’t come down enough.

just re geared as well to 5.29’s and front and rear lockers. So I do not want to go to a high pinion

any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

I would take it back to the drive shaft shop. If they can't make it right, get your money back. Sounds like you need more angle than the drive shaft can provide. You probably need a long travel spline as well. My 88 and my son's 91 had the same TG kit. My 88 still had the stock spline and it almost comes apart at full droop. We put the long travel spline in my son's and no problems. We both had dual cases and high pinion diffs though. Also didn't use the double cardan joint in the front. Just two U-joints. I'm not saying you can't use the double cardan, we just didn't.

Call Jesse at High Angle Driveline or check out Tom Woods website.

Good luck with your build and please follow up with whatever you decide.

Yea I’m going to return it and see what they can do I would probably just want to use another end of a u joint and just do it like that. If you could link the long slip shaft as to where I can get it. I’m also in Canada so hopefully someone that ship globally.
I will give them a call on some advice

thanks,Cam

Here's a few links to the long spline kits. You still have to have the shaft made though. https://www.yotamasters.com/shop/dri...-style-toyota/

https://tom-woods.myshopify.com/prod...~yr_up-to-1995 You can order a complete shaft from Tom Woods

https://www.davezoffroadperformance....driveline.html Davez also makes shafts

Sorry, I don't know who ships to Canada. At least you have some ideas. Good luck.

I actually used the stock front double cardan shaft in the rear. You have to use a flip kit and new spring perches so you can rotate the pinion up for proper pinion angle. It helps gets the shaft up out of the way of dragging on rocks. Pretty smooth running on the street. Plenty of how to articles and videos for setting proper angle.

I had the stock rear shaft shortened and used it in the front. A local truck parts place had a drive shaft shop out back. Mainly for PTO shafts and such. He did a good job and used thicker tube. I've been running these shafts since 2012 or so. The short 4" stock splines on the front never came apart but it was close a few times. That's why we went long spline on my son's build. I bought the TG kit back then and made it on my lathe. It was short enough to fit on my lathe. I couldn't balance it but my son said it never had a vibration. Not used on the street though.

Good luck with your build.
