Doing my 1st SAS! w/ pics

So I'm SAS'ing my buddie's '94 with a 5" kit from Trail-Gear. We've gotten pretty far. We started yesterday. I have been doing all of the cutting and welding myself. Check it out!

Man I'm jealous. I wish I had a buddies rig to try this on for some practice. Looks like a pretty nice shop you're working in. Nice job, cant wait to see it when its done.

Ya I know LOL. It's my buddies shop. He has plenty of money so I talked him into the SAS on his 'ol '94 so that I would be well practiced for when I do mine in his shop! He has 6 trucks and his daily driver is an '06 Duramax crew cab w/ 10" suspension lift. So nice! The red one in the background is his dad's work truck lol. The SAS is easy as long as you have basic shop skills. I spent at least 2.5 hours with a torch in my hands dropping all the IFS!

OK, so I'm pretty much done except for hooking up the steering and final paint-work. The 5" trail gear lift is MASSIVE. I know it will settle some but WOW. The truck has a 4 in lift in the back and it looks like it's pulling a wheelie lol. The 35's look tiny. I am a bit concerned about the shackle placement in the middle of the body mount pocket as per Trail-Gear instructions. the shackle is definitely gonna hit the mount under suspension compression out on the trail. I'm thinkin' about going with a SKY boomerang shackle to alleviate this. Any thoughts there? Overall, I really, really like the kit. My welding was getting so good today LOL. I can't wait to do this to my truck!!!

Naw, I didn't take any pics of that garbage! lol. Cutting out the IFS was definitely a pain in my ass and I have all the burns to prove it. I will hopefully have a chance to get more pics up soon. I got out to the shop and realized I had forgotten my SD card. Honestly, I can't even believe how good my SAS came out. My shock hoops are sooo perfect. Most people's are crooked and it looks terrible. So much fun!

So you're saying to just tac the front bar in place and then check shackle angle before fully welding? I installed it 1/2" forward of the edge of the core support brace. Wouldn't it be better to move the rear shackle mounts forward if anything? I'm curious b/c I will be SAS'ing my truck soon.

After reading idahos post like 15 times i finally think i figured out what hes asking.
How hard would a SAS be with out having a 4 point lift to work on.

Answer- Its done all the time. Just a little less comfortable.
