Different gearing or drivetrain help
Hey guys I ha a few questions about new or different gearing in my 2004 Toyota tacoma sr-5 EC. Is there anything I can do hear wise to change it up alittle or can I get a locker for front? I am just curious about my gearing options any help would be appreciated.

Gearing changes depend on the workload and intent of your plans.
Toyota's system is to run tall gears and short tires - a combination that means more engine power makes it to the road. This also buys an owner more room fore bigger tires in the future, stock 4.1 gears can go as far as 33 inch tires before your truck starts really needing an upgrade.
As far as selecting what you want, here is a convenient chart of rough ranges for gears and tires:

Bear in mind that the yellow "Economy" options equate to a rubber overdrive - you lose power in that combination. Red "Power" options means you have higher revs cruising and reduced fuel economy, but you get off the line better and can pull hills easier. Green is slightly off-mark because that's closer to the factory mark for a Heep - Toyota factory is somewhere between green and red.
As far as people to talk to for getting diffs, and getting an idea what you want you can always pay a visit to your friendly neighborhood mechanic specializing in 4X4s, or you can drop Just Differentials a line, or call Marlin Crawler. They are all good options and I know Marlin and JD will always take the sensible side and not try to sell you an R&P set you don't really need.
