bj-hj 60 axles

so I found some hj/bj-60 axles front and rear, my question is that would they require a different set-up then a 83-85 axle? So I'm asking could I run with wabfab kit? I want to do an under axle with 3" leaf springs and run 33s. The axles are in seattle and the guy wants me to make an offer.

If they're the same as FJ60 axles then the front is 58.50" WMS to WMS and the rear is .50" shorter.

FJ60's use 3" wide leaf springs and minis use smaller 2.5" (or around that number) leaf springs so you'll have to figure that out.

so that put the front at the same width as an ifs rear...hmmm.

the rears are not full floating, are they? probably semi-floating with a drum brake and a 9.5 inch ring gear?

USA FJ60 axles are semi-float with drums and 9.5" ring gear. Other countries got full float FJ60 axles.

The BJ/HJ-60 was never imported to this country, so there is a chance the rear may be FF.

The FJ 60's were 3.7 gears, fine spline pinions.

Were these the one's on Craigs list?

Just to keep the confusion down. FJ60 gear ratio's are 3.70. FJ62 are 4.10.

If you have pictures of the rear I could tell you if it's full float or not.

If they are FF, that would be KILLER.

Just FYI, you *may* (not for sure, just some have had issues) get bad gas tank rub with the offset rear. (assuming you are putting this on 91 PU)

they might be set up as spring under also. Every stock FJ 60/62 I have seen are spring under

most mini truck SAS are spring over

well if the leaf springs are 3" could I just use a 2.5" or would that be to light? My thought would be that the 2.5" would work since it doesn't have the body weight of a land cruiser.

so this would be a problem since the rear driveline would be crocked and rub, I really have no idea about land cruiser stuff just mini truck so this is all new stuff for me.

yeah, land cruiser rear ends are passenger side offset...the same side as mini truck fuel tanks. some people replace their tanks, others move them.

Right. Depending on suspension set ups, you can experience rubbing issues on the tank. It will depend on lift and flex. Also can run into binding issues, but you have to have ALOT of flex for that.

Just move your tank behind the axle and you should be fine.

I posted a similar thread on a different forum some time ago.

Spring under was a concern
Passender side diff was a concern.

The other things mentioned were the availability of Brake/misc axle parts, they were costlier and less available, IIRC.

If you are going spring under, you may want to get the LARGER springs in the kit, that is the 4" or 5" . If i remember right a spring under to spring over will give you 3-4" of lift, so think backwards if you are going to install backwards.

Maybe just get the front FJ axle, and look for a centered T100 or a later model Tacoma with a wider axle.

Double e-lockers in that setup..... Pimp.
