2wd 87 pickup sas

Hey I have the money for parts and everything I just had a few questions about mix matching a 89 4x4 rearend into an 87 2wd pickup with and 84 or 85 front axle and how hard it would be? Maybe some tips for when I go to try it?

Sell your 2wd truck buy what you want .

Since your ahead to buy a complete truck rather then parts here and there spending lots of time and $$$ running after things

Then it might be easier to just swap this engine into a 4x4 that only needs a engine.

If your doing this for something to keep you out of the house keep the spouse from spending money .

No real pressure maybe a year or two time line forgetting it done.

Have a good time.

Fabrication skills up to the job.

Having fixed a few of these over the years that the builders got things a little off and the truck went down the road a bit sideways

Have thought and thought about this that's why I got on here to see how hard the swap would be I don't care how long it takes just didn't know how troublesome it would become because I'd like to make it fuel injected as well while I'm at it

Buy one that is already fuel injected. I have converted trucks from fuel injected to non fuel injected and there are numerous things involved besides just putting in injectors and the Plenum. Just because 85-95s were fuel injected doesn't mean all the years interchange and especially when dealing with two different generations of trucks.

Not trying to rain on your parade here.

First the conversion to 4 wheel drive .

The transmission and transfer case front and rear drive shafts

most likely build a custom cross member depending on if your going auto or manual

Then front and rear axles it might be possible to change the rear axle shafts or have them redrilled for 6 studs instead of 5 be a pain 6 lug wheels on front and 5 on the back

Lots of little details one forgets

Then the SAS completely remove the front suspension .

Rebuild your new front axle and front brakes Install the spring hangers and shackles

install the steering linkage and steering box.

Get the front end aligned

Plus lots of other little things .
