I'd like to go, but I'll have to hitch a ride as a passenger. The Epic Mobile is down for the count -- I'll probably be doing a total rebuild in my garage over the next two or three yea...errrrrr, months. Anyone have room for a wingman?
Oh -- and as far as shooting goes, hehehe...lemme know what you'd like to do. I have hand guns, rifles, and shotguns. We could always have some fun with the tannerite:

For this Pyeatte Draw just outside of Payson, you are going to want to get off the 40 at Holbrook and head down the rim into Payson.
I'll get you better directions or someone else can chime in.

The trail is located along Houston Mesa Rd. The turnoff to Houston Mesa Rd. is just north of the Wal-Mart in Payson. Head East towards the Mogollon Rim.
You will need a map or someone that has been up there to get directions after that.

Steve,
How far out of the way would it be to stop at your house first? I think I'm going to do that and just ride from there if its a day run. I don't really feel like leaving my rig somewhere on the side of the road with all my stuff in it etc. I'd be SOL if that got broken into/stolen.

BTW have we nailed a date for this? I still vote for 8/12 if anyone is counting.

You could stop here first. I was sort of thinking Sat the 11th for the run and if you want to do a BBQ/Pool Party that could be the 12th.
That's sort of what I was thinking. It's hard to wheel on Sunday as you don't have a recovery day.
I'm open to suggestions though. This would probably be a day run, it's still going to be hot, just not as bad as Phoenix.

Would anyone be willing to try and get monday off work?
If so then we could have the meet/greet/bbq/pool party friday, do a day run sat that is close by and ifs/stockish friendly. Then on sun/mon we could do a more hardcore trail day/maybe camp? That might be too much, I don't know what is close etc... what do you think?

I don't think you realize how hot it is here. It would be like going out and doing stuff in the dead of winter back east. Pretty rough on you.
This trail by Payson will have better weather and can be easy for everyone or hard if you make it. It seems to be a perfect fit for everyone.
You can't do alot outside here in the 3 summer months. It sucks.

I did Martinez with Steve and Mark on the 13th of July, 2003. It hit 113 degrees and we got an early start. The trail was easy, though we took some easier lines and did not dawdle. The day was flat out miserable. It is not so much that you don't want to be outside, you can't. Changing a CV or swapping a spare goes from a nuisance to a day breaker.
Honestly, I would hesitate to run a dirt road down there at this time of year. Having fixed after midnight in the middle of a trail, I would just hate to do that when people had to get back to work or worse yet, when you sack was dripping.

I would also expect quite a bit of water on the trail. Alot of the trails in that area are through streambeds and this time of year it can rain every afternoon below the rim.
Regardless...that will be a great run and a nice escape from the heat.

I think we have a plan:
Sat 12: Pyeatte Draw
Sun 13: BBQ/Pool Party in Tempe
Mon 14: Florence Junction for some.
I'll be up to my arm pits in work as always, so I can't really loose Monday, but I am really good at taking the weekends off.
