Mt. Blanca Sat. 8/27 anyone??

We will be meeting at the trail head at 9AM an Sat. 8/27. Some will make a trip up and down, while the rest will be camping at Como Lake. Anybody else interested in coming along? Last year we saw a newer Taco with 33's (I think) up there, so it is doable with smaller tires.

Hmm - you're talking Blanca Peak Trail, right? I thought that was a pretty extreme trail... Definately take some pics!

Wow, I was looking that trail up and it looks pretty challenging..

Jaws 2 isn't much further, and it is the most dangerous one. There is a plaque remembering Leonard Davis, one of many who have died here. It has since been built up on the cliff edge to make it slightly less dangerous, but it is still very risky. It is a series of rocks that lean out toward the edge, with just enough room to work your way over it without falling off. It is often wet and muddy, making it even more dangerous. There is some room to turn around at the bottom before attempting Jaws 2.

It really is not as difficult as everyone makes it out to be. There is a bypass on Jaws 3, but not on the rest, i.e. Jaws 1, 2, 2.5 and 4. You don't have to do 4 and IMO it is the worst now. Jaws 2 has been tamed a bit, so it is not as difficult as it used to be. I almost rolled on it a few years ago, coming down, when my engine died, but, just pushed the clutch in and rolled thru it. I could post pixs, but I don't think you guys would like to look at my Bronco, instead of our 4runner. Wife will need it this weekend, plus, she doesn't want me to take it on Blanca......yet Don't know why, I always take good care of our vehicles, the scratches are purely for asthetics anyway...

oh, I get it. Lure us into thinking your taking your 99 4runner - like it's no problem - then show up in your 8" lifted, double locked, fully armored Bronco. LOL - seriously, how modified is your Bronco?

Only have a total of 5.5" of lift. 3.5" suspension and 2" body lift on 35 BFG mt's. I have done alot of mods to it, specifically to wheel it. I narrowed the front end 14" and added custom bumpers, rocker plates and quarter panel protectors. The problem with the Bronco compared to the 4runner is the width of the tub. So it has its difficult areas. It is locked w/ ARB's as well. I have tried to balance a rock crawler and DD.

Man, that does not look doable without 2 lockers...and are you sure 33's would do it, that jaws 1 looks like a highcenter for sure, 4 actually looks easier in the pics from the link that crux posted....

Blanca is about 6 miles long and it is 4 miles before Jaws 1. Before the SAS we would drive up to Jaws 1 and it was a pretty fun trail. Ussually somebody else is up there so you can watch. Jaws 1 has a bypass, but it is sketchy, going over the obstical is do able with 33's but will probably take a while and possibly some tuging.

With 35's on my Bronco, I can take the far right line over Jaws 1, a friend w' 33's came at the obstacle from left to right and cleared it easily. There is not any bypass for Jaws one. The rock ledge is in the middle of the trail. But, it is doable with smaller tires if you follow the "ridge" from left to right. We run this trail at least 2X every year. About 4-5 years ago, a friend took his stock 90(s)Toyota pickup and made everything look easy. He needed atug on 2, but made everything else. Of course the trail is alot different now and a very challenging section is emerging after the creek crossing, before 2. Alot of bouders are being exposed by use and weather.

We have changed the meeting time to 10AM, at the trailhead, if anybody is interested. Looks like we should 5-6 vehicles for the trip and at least 4 of us are camping.
