Mohave Road much???
I am planning a trip in early March along the Mohave Road, and I am soliciting any ideas or comments! I have a book and many URLs already about the Mohave Preserve, but I would like any real-life stories or experiences.
I am used to expedition camping, having worked in Grand Canyon guiding for a decade or so, and I have the cooler, toilet & food planned out, although any dutch oven recipes are always appreciated!
Vehicle-wise, I am bringing two spares, spare hoses, water, oil, drain pan, tools, gas, hi-lift, 20' strap, shovel, and pry bar.

Campin' is so cool...

I did in in october 2007. 3 days starting in laughlin.
Last trip i took with my step dad before he passed last july...
So naturally, i have an inclination towards that trail.
Anyways, enough with the sob story.
I'd recommend a later date... maybe mid april.
Soda lake can be a real b*tch to get across if it hasnt been given long enough to dry.
Also, there is a really cool old gold mine and a cave towards the west end of the trail by the 15. i forget exactly where the cave is... it is by some marker, but the cave itself isnt clearly marked. check that out too.

Also, there is a lava run east of soda lake. Thats the only place we saw anyone get a flat.. and he got two.
Lots of sharp volcanic rock fragments.
The trail itself is fairly mild. Shouldnt need much recovery gear.
The only sketchy park is soda lake...
High-lift, water, oil/filter, and a basic tool kit should suffice. No need to get all crazy.

AZ89LONGBED, I just ran the Mojave Road over the new years holiday - we started in Needles on Thursday Jan 1st and ended at Soda Dry Lake on Sat Jan 3rd, due to the lake being wet and the weather starting to turn on us - we decided to go home on Saturday - however the weather on the first two days was sunny and nice for that time of year.
If it wasent raining on us, we would have done the Soda Lake bypass and finished the trail Saturday.
On the section of trail we ran, no one in our party got any flats and we did not encounter any volcanic rock fragments. The road was well maintained and a little muddy in some parts due to the rain, but I did that whole section of trail in 2wd to conserve on fuel.
I would like to go back some day soon and finish the trail.
