The Mingus Mangler- East of Prescott, AZ.
Just a short trip report for the AZ crew, no pic's-
Directions:
Take Highway 89A east from Prescott or Prescott Valley to the 6000' elevation sign. Slow down and follow the guardrail till it ends, take a hard right to the creek bottom. The trail is split in two by the access road.
The short west section does not have an entry/exit road. Turn west into the creek to the initial obstacle. It's a fun 4 foot waterfall w/ several lines available. There are two other fun spots prior to turning around in the sand wash and returning the way you came in. I'd rate this section at 3.5+, and recommend 33" tires and a rear locker at a minimum. If you don't get the lines right, there is a good possibility of body damage or flopping when going down the trail. When returning to the start, there is a fun line on the waterfall to the far left. I'd say this section, although very short, has a "fun factor" similar to the Terminator trails off Table Mesa Rd.
The east section is relatively easy, I'd rate it a 3. It does have an exit road past the last obstacle. There is an optional route on the last obstacle to the left that could be interesting- I didn't see it until we were thru the trail.
I'd say if your up in the area to do Smiley Rock and want some more challenging obstacles, this would make a great addition that will only take 45 minutes or so to run.
This trail is on Forest Service land- please respect it and clean up any trash left by the slobs. Please stay on the trail, any damage done by careless wheelers WILL result in the closure of yet another trail. If you must stack rocks to make it thru, REMOVE THEM WHEN YOUR DONE.
