last minute trip to ohv park in so cal newhall area TODAY march 28th
so me and my friend just now decided to make a run up to a local ohv park called Rowher Flat OHV Area located 10 miles north of newhall, ca. we'll probably meet up there sometime this afternoon around 3ish. if anyone near or around that area is interested in meeting us there, you're more than welcome! so far it's just two of us, but i thought i'd post this thread to let all you yotatechers out there in on the fun.
i have never been this ohv area, so i wouldn't be able to tell you what kind of terrain we'll be facing. but i do know there's 145 acres of open area and 8 miles of 4 wheel drive trails and lots of stuff for motorcycles and atvs.
if you decide to come, here's some brief directions:
Take the Antelope Valley Freeway (Hwy. 14) and exit at Sand Canyon. Go north on Sand Canyon to Sierra Highway and turn right. Take Sierra Highway approximately five miles to Rush Canyon access Road. Look for the Rowher Flat sign on the left-hand side of the road.
if you're interested in meeting us there, PM me and i'll give you my cell phone number and stuff so we can set up someplace to meet. i know this is way last minute, but we just woke up and decided to go. so hit me up if you're interested!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i live near there. it's a nice place to wheel. it's can be challenging, with a few difficult parts. i was there a couple weeks or so ago and the backside of the mountain/ohv was closed, not sure if it's been opened up since. if not, you can wheel to the top, then have to turn around. i may meet you guys there, not sure what's in store for me today.

sounds nice. are mostly stock rigs with 31 inch tires capable of getting around there? i don't want to get in over my head, but i do like a challenge.
it would be awesome if you came, always nice to have someone around that knows the area.

here's a map of the area you guys might want to check out: http://www.calrockx.com/4runner/allr...owherflats.jpg
rowher trail is the one to go on. sierra pelona is just like a fire road (read: scenic, but boring.)
there's lots of places to get poser shots taken. i've wheeled the trails there when i was pretty much stock, i don't think you guys will have a problem.
i PM'd you my number, but call me when you guys reach the 14 and we can meet at the first staging area.

okay, man thanks alot! are the "difficult" trails on this map passable with stock rigs? if not, i'll be sure to stay away from them. haha.
anyway, i PMed you back with my number. i will for sure give you a ring when we reach the 14. i'm still sitting here waiting for everyone to call me, but hopefully we can get on the road asap.
oh, one more question. are the rangers there strict about not having a muffler on your rig? i chopped mine off a week or so ago, and i just want to know if they enforce that rule. i can always keep the rpms low when there's people or ranger's around. i don't want to be a disturbance.
just a quick question.
alright, well i hope to see you there!

nah. i hardly ever see rangers there. in the many times i've been there, just once. and that was last time, to tell us we can't go on the backside.

okay coooool! so if there's hardly any rangers there, i'm assuming there's no entry fee? i know at san gabrieal it's 8 bucks to get in. ehh. doesn't sound like they would charge though if there's not many rangers there. okay man, hope to see you there! my girlfriend just called, just waiting for my other friend to call then hopefully we can take off. if he doesn't call by like 2:30, i might just leave if you're planning on going. i just don't like wheelin alone. it's not safe and not very fun. but if you're gunna be there then i'll head out around 2 or 2:30 and just plan on meeting you down there. wa hoooo!

ah, today was fun! some of the more challenging wheeling i've had in a while, but it was good times.
you're welcome to come up to big bear with us on the 8th and 9th of april. it's with a church group though, if that's cool with you. it will be fun. i'm not sure what kind of terrain we'll be going through. there's a stock 80's suburban in the group, so i don't know how challenging it will be, but there's bound to be some fun stuff in there somewhere. after all, it's big bear.
alright man, well you take it easy and i hope to go wheelin again soon!
