The run is on Feb. 11, 2006.

Meet at 8:30 at the GOLD CANYON Texaco, not the old and now closed Florence Junction Texaco. It is on the north side of Highway 60 after you pass Apache Junction, you get to Gold Canyon, this is where the Texaco is. There is a stop light on the highway here as well.

Gold Canyon Texaco
7138 E Highway 60
GOLD CANYON, AZ 85219

As for Woodpecker Mine, it is a 4/5 trail and hardest one I have ever opened up to the public. You really need a set of sliders and a rear locker. I have seen an open diff truck bounce through it but it was pretty painful to watch.

This is a hard trail. But not something you will hurt your vehicle at all if properly equipped and your don't drive like a spaz. Use common sense and don't show off.

If you want to attend, but do not want to take your truck that is fine. We have plenty of folks that will offer up room for you to ride along. You should still come out, park at the trail head and ride along.

I put the run on the 11th so if you wanted to go to Mark Longfields run, you could as well.

See you on the run.

I should be able to make it. I'm gonna have to see if the guy who is building my rear bumper can get it done in time.

Are you guys planning the trip for Feb 11 or March 11? I would hate to create and use up a great excuse to get out of honeydo's and it be the wrong day!

This is a hard trail. You are really going to need a set of sliders and a lift. Especially with a bigger 4th Gen. You'll get the traction, but it has to be higher off the ground and you'll need to protect the sides.

I just got the lift Monday. My next mod was to come over and speak to you again about some sliders. If I can get free, I was planning to hitch a ride with someone. Anyone have an extra seat?

Steve - I have not been up the Woodpeckers yet...just seen lots of pictures and I understand many of the bigger rocks have bypasses.

How does it compare to Martinez Canyon?

How many trucks are in so far?

I think this one is a bit easier. If you don't do the Fire Hole. Which I doubt I ever will as it's stupid.

The only other thing is the squeeze and there is an up the hill bypass for that.

It's a fun trail. The end is the start to Highway to Hell.

If anyone want to come out and ride along, I'm sure there will be plenty of open seats.

Have fun and take good pics.

I like this trail, good way to unwind.

On the last squeeze, forget it is there. Just drive and don't freak out. Tuck arond the side and get out. When you stress about it, it gets hard.

It has gotten dug out quite a bit so you don't get pitched as much.

It's easier now. Than years ago, 2001-2003

Woodpecker Mine Trail
This is a fun trail indeed. I have heard people say oh is an easy run and some say it is hard core. Both can be true depending on when you go. Rain comes and the trail is hardcore. Lackies come and stack rocks, easy again.

I have taken the trail twice and love the area. Did you see the Petroglyphs in the canyon?

Here is some pictures of my recent trips to the woodpecker. I also went to the Arizona Dep of Mines and Minerals and found some cool info too:
