Hmm.....It is only when you connect the battery or when it is running, I am thinking that maybe the wire going to your coil is jumping a spark to the line maybe, do you have a multi-meter? Try checking for continuity between the line and the positive battery terminal, if there is any, follow that line down and check the wires that come close to it.
