My neighbor is trying to sell me his 86 toyota regular cab 4x4. It has the 22r (not re) and new manual tranny, and it was repainted white a year ago. he is a retired mechanic and keeps the truck up really well and the only thing i could see wrong with it is a tear in the seat and a little rust in the bed, which he said that he was going to fix before he sold it. I had an 89 toyota with a 22re and it was in great shape but everything that could leak leaked, so i fixed most of it, sold it, and made a little money. his truck has a new timing chain, and new radiator. the only thing that concerns me is that it has 270,000 on the original motor. should i relly be worried? I know that i can rebuild it fairly cheap, but how cheap if i were to have a shop do it? He tried to sell it to me a year ago right after I bought mine and wanted 4k. what should i offer him? im thinkin 3k. thanks

Offer him 2k. Its high miles, but not unheard of. Really need to see pics of the truck. My 02.

 

yea i wish i had some pics. its super clean inside and out. he just painted it himself and only drives it to his welding shop bout 6 miles from his house.
