Good '94 Toyota?

http://portland.craigslist.org/yam/cto/3295792605.html

Well I'm lookin for a truck and I see toyotas all over and I've heard of their legendary reputation for off-road. This one i noticed here is the 22re motor with 175k miles. Doesnt look beat to hell like most toyotas which is a huge rarity in my area atleast. I'd use this as a daily driver (works only 2 miles away) and an offroad toy. Any idea what I should look for or other specific models? Only lookin to spend less than $6k preferably. Opinions? Thanks

welcome to yotatech!

if that's the type of truck you're looking for, why not? it looks to be in decent condition and has a couple "good" upgrades like 5.29 gearing and f/r lockers - but on the downside it's got ridiculously huge tires for mudding and an 8" lift (most likely 4 susp 4 body). meh upgrades are the exhaust and stereo (unless it's a FULL exhaust). would i say it's worth $6k? probably not. really depends on what type of lift it's got (brand of suspension lift) and how long it's all been setup like this on that truck (since this setup will put more wear on parts especially if it's been wheeled a lot), also depends on what type of lockers it has in those diffs. other than that, the base truck visually looks well cared for.

if it were me, i'd try to talk him down closer to $5k, then contemplate a skinnier 35/36" wheel/tire package as well as lowering that body lift. Just that right there will probably pick you up 1-2mpg from less tire and wind resistance and will be more purposed to wheeling trails/rocks vs mudding.
