fix it or sell it.
last year I bought a 1995 4runner for $5,500. Private Party so I took what the seller claimed with a grain of salt.
he claimed the motor was recently rebuilt (6,000 miles ago), I bought this truck for the sole purpose of off-road camping and telescope viewing, so since Feb last year I have only driven it 1,400 miles.
based on the invoice he gave me showing the rebuild, that mean about 7,500 miles since the rebuild.
yesterday the truck started burning oil bad and overheating. First thing that came to mind was the head gaskets.
Got quoted >$2,400 to reman the heads, most of that being labor as the heads are only about $600 with core exchange..
that is nearly 50% of what I paid for the truck, not counting the new axels, ball joints, shocks, brakes, seat covers, window regulars, and other misc things I have done to it in the past year.
at this point I really don't feel like forking out $2,400 to fix it, but not sure I can get what I would want selling it in current condition..
and no I can't do the heads myself, I have neither the time or the ability (I know how to do the work, I am disabled so it makes actually doing it very difficult)..
anyone want a 1995 4runner with blown heads?
