Couple of trucks I'm thinking of buying but want to know if it's worth it

A buddy of mine told me about a wrecked 1996 T100 4x4 v6 5speed SR5 truck. It was rolled and the body is totalled but it runs and drives, guy says everything works. He's asking 2200 but I might be able to talk him down to 1750. Is the to high, all I think I want is the axles for my 86runner? Has any one with the Total Chaos kit ran the rear end out of a T100 to match the track with to the front?

The second truck is an old ranch truck that hasn't been ran in almost a decade but my buddy sent me pics of under the hood and interior. It's a 22returbo 5peed 4wheel drive and I think it's a SR5 but I can't tell. It has the 3 cluster dash piece and an oil pressure gauge. Other then that the truck is beat up and the interior is really dirty and beat up. Guys asking 1000, worth it?

The 96 T100 is probably a 5vzfe v6, which is one of the best truck engines Toyota ever built and much sought after for engine swaps. the transmission behind it would be a R150F, strong and reliable and the transfer case was still a passenger side drop. Great power train for a swap, but I'd try and get the price down.
If the turbo truck has never been altered then the transmission is an R151F and the transfercase is a 23 spline unit. These are the most sought after for off road applications and they are getting very rare.
My son and I finished building an offroad truck about three weeks ago and we have had it out 4 wheeling a couple of times. 5vze out of a 99 tacoma, R151f transmission and 23 spline transfer case out of an 86-87 turbo truck. To say that I'm impressed with this combination out 4 wheeling would be an understatement. In hard going 1st gear 4 low you never have to touch the clutch. the motor has enough power to pull the truck just above idle and the low 4.31 first gear is perfect. but we do have 4.88;s front and back.
If you can get the price down on the T100...buy it. As far as the turbo truck...I paid $500 for a transmission/transfer case set up, so a $1000 for a complete running truck...Buy it!

How much do you think I should offer him for the T100?

it depends how much you plan to rebuild to use on your project, id say 2200 is a bit high for essentially a useless vehicle. Id go 1250-1500 probably. But only if you can hear it run, and it sounds like it has no issues. If you cant sit inside, cycle all the gears etc.

Ok so I just talk to my buddy's uncle (the owner), he says that he was asking 2200 for both trucks and he'll send me a video of the t100 driving but he is not sure if the truck will run because it has been sitting since 2002 when he bought the t100. If I buy both he's going to use the T100 to tow the 87 down. Btw I seem to have forgotten to post the mileage of either truck. Turbo has 187k original miles, and the T100 has 260k. No maintenance records because he maintained both trucks himself. He would keep them but says he is getting to old to fix the trucks himself and is going to use whatever he sells the trucks for as a down on a Tundra.

My buddy says his uncle's barn is full of old yoda parts but my bud doesn't know what any of them are or if they even work. I maybe making a trip to NV and listing some of them if they are worth anything.

total chaos kit extends front track width 6.5 inches.
the t100 rear end is 8.5 inches wider than a 2nd gen rear axle.

i'm thinking about using this setup on mine when i do my suspension.

better get the turbo as they are hard to find.
sounds like a good restoration project.

Red face

I would say no more than $2000.00 for both unless you get so many extra goodies that both beds are full.

I gotta say from personal experience give me a stock 3.4 over a 22rtec anyday the 3.4 will run circles around the turbo engine without any effort.

In fact I pulled a 22rtec out of a pick up sold that and was planning on a 7mgte swap I think the 3.4 is going to much better with less custom work.

If I take the engine, front diff and axles, and the rear end out of the T100. Also the transmission and transfer out of the Turbo. How much you think I could get out of what's left?

I say go with both. Take the engine, trans, t-case out of T-100 and swap them in to the turbo. Rebuild the trubo engine and use for antoher project or sale and make money back.

Oh I already have a project for the turbo, I'm thinking a dually build with the T100 tranny and transfer. I have an 86 runner that needs an engine and trans so the 3.4 and the r151 w/transfer is going in there, while I'm at it I might just build a twin stick dualler with the transfer I already have. Then again I might just sell whatever is left.

Ok I went up and looked at both trucks. The turbo was missing some key pieces and had rain/rust water in the oil pan, tranny looked along with the transfer, interior and body were trashed and I can't see myself paying 1700 for a truck that doesn't run and looked like that. Now I don't know if a questionable transfer and trans are worth that much by themselves but I told him I would call on friday to let him know.

As for the T100, the pics made it look good and that ain't saying much. Story is the guys nephew fell asleep at the wheel and drove it up a mountain wall. It landed on it's passenger side bending and mangling everything. Thou it drove home under it own power the frame is toast all the sheet metal is bent and scratched and the rear axle tube is bent. The thing dog tracks and pulls hard to the drivers side. Not to mention the leaks this thing had. Man I'm glad I didn't just buy them and have'em brought to me.
