Oregon/PNW Wheelers: Want New Trails? Send Some Emails by Feb 1st

Hey Oregon and Pacific North West wheelers:
Want some more Trails to wheel?
Here is your opprtunity to get some more trails in a time that they are taking trails away.

It takes just a few minutes to send an email to let the Forest Service know that we want more places to run trails, let your friends know too...

Info Here:

Want to make a difference?? Here's your chance!

Central Oregonís Combined OHV Operations needs your support to gain funds for trail development. There are 3 projects listed below...

What to do?

Write 3 separate emails for each project listed below. Put the project title in the email subject and letter intro. What to write about? Let the grant committee know how you feel about your trail systems, why you or your organization supports the new trail development, the need to maintain and expand the trails and perhaps a mention about the work that COHVOPS is doing etc. Letters from individuals are also important, and if you know anyone in the OHV community that would be willing to take a few minutes to write a letter of support for the Three Trails project please pass this email along. The letters need to be project specific, Rim Butte, Cline Buttes, and Three Trails. Please mention the project title in your letter.

You can email your letters to: Matt Able [email protected]

Project Descriptions:

Three Trails Phase II Project Description:
Located south and west of Crescent, mostly off of Hwy 58, this area provides the southern region of Central Oregon with a designated OHV system. Trails constructed over the last two summer seasons as well as existing shared use roads have added 80 miles of signed and mapped routes. Phase II of the Three Trails development will expand the trail system to the north. This grant application will fund continued development including approximately 108 miles of designated OHV routes accommodating all classes of OHV.

Rim Butte Project Description:
Located south of the Newberry National Monument and on the western edge of the East Fort Rock Trail System. The area is heavily impacted from logging operations and fires throughout the recent past and features numerous rock outcroppings and lava flows that make this location ideal for technical class II trails. This development project will designate between 17 and 32 miles of class II routes with a focus on technical rock crawling. Trails will be open to all classes of OHV, but the design and layout will maximize the technical off-road mileage. This project is slated to begin development in July of 2013 with a lot of coordination needed from class II clubs and volunteers.

Cline Buttes Phase II Project Description:
Located between Redmond and Sisters off of Hwy 126 this area provides convenient access to OHV riding for most of Central Oregonís residents. Development of the Cline Buttes OHV Area has been underway for nearly two years with noticeable progress on the ground. At this point the trail system south of Hwy 126 has been established with all the trails constructed, signed, and mapped. The trail system includes single track, technical rock crawling, ATV trails, and shared use roads totaling 89 miles of newly designated OHV routes for Central Oregon. Phase II of the project will include further development of the Barr North Staging Area with the addition of fire rings and picnic tables as well as the completion of the ASI/MSF/youth training area. Additional rehab work will take place to reduce user created trails and eliminate conflicts with private property owners within the OHV area. This grant will also cover the design and layout of the proposed trails north of Hwy 126.
