wheel lock for spare

Looking to order wheel lock set for my FJ. I found that the set say's it includes 5 pieses, but from the pictures the 5th piece is the nut key only. How do you lock the spare to the rear door?

Try this

I've used a cable bike lock through the rim. I have a cloth cover over my spare, so you can't see the lock, but it also keeps it covered from the elements. Every couple months, take some lithium white grease and spray the tumblers to make sure the lock will come off when you need it.

I need a regular spare tire lock, not a cable that dangles, and looks terrible. I don't want any cover over the wheel. My old Isuzu Trooper had a special nut with a built in screw which worked with the same key nut as the wheel locks.

If this is not available, which I will find out when my vehicle arrives, I'm not going to be able to purchase it. What happens when your parked all day at a train station when your at work, or better yet when your at the mall. Anyone could walk away with the wheel.

PPO WL (wheel locks) includes five identical locks and one key plus paperwork.

Bob, are your locks like the Gorilla ones?
I have them on my 4Runner, and like them way better than McGuards.

They're different, completely smooth cylindrical surface with the special key socket that inserts into the head. I've read on other forums that this is the preferred wheel lock since a universal fit socket can't get a grip on the lug. They're also alloy wheel or steel wheel specific, depending on which comes stock on your FJ. This photo shows four plus the key for a Tacoma. FJ is the same plus an extra installed on the spare.

Wow, I will get those instead at the dealer if they offer them.
The design is like the McGuards, only better.

With the McGuards I used in the past, that puzzle line on top would often slip off if you got the key at an angle.

Toyota fixes that by having the casing go around the lugnut to get a better grip.
I like that a lot.

Thanks, now I feel better knowing its available. My main concern was someone stealing the spare.

Hi Guys!
Got my Silver FJ yesterday and noticed when I got home there was no wheel lock on the spare.I did some calling around and found out the following:
1)PPO WL which is the five lock kit is only available to the Port of Entry folks for installation and can't be ordered by the dealer. It shows up on the window sticker for $59.00
2)The kit available to the dealer for the cast wheels under the FJ parts catalog is a 4 lock kit
3)The 5 lock kit in the FJ parts catalog is for the steel wheels only and the fifth lock for the spare is a different color or has a two tone appearance(this kit should not be used on the cast wheels)
4)The five lock kit for the cast wheels on the RAV 4 has the same locks as the 4 lock cast kit for the FJ and thats the one you should use (cost is $42at the parts counter)

What about the 17" alloys?
That is what I have coming on my rig, and I did not opt for the PPO installed locks.

So I guess I am screwed?
Best to maybe suck it up and buy two lock kits, and put the other three aside from the eight.

Call your dealer tonight, before tomorrow's allocation, to add WL. It's a crapshoot at this point, but we discussed this possibility earlier, no?

Hi Guys!
Not a crapshoot for the 17"inch alloys!!! The kit for the Rav4 alloys is the right fit for the FJ. I have them on mine.Ask your parts guy to show you the FJ alloy kit and the Rav4 alloy kit together. The only difference is the Rav 4 kit has the needed 5 locks.I found it interesting that the locks when purchased at the parts counter under the Rav4 packaging was cheaper than the PPO WL price for the same locks.
Just so you know the parts guy at my dealer called Toyota and was told to use the Rav4 kit by them. This was the "factory" solution to this issue not something I figured out.
Sorry if my first post was confusing.

Hopefully Bob the rig is already getting ready for the boat.

MML, thanks for the info.
I think I will drop by the dealer and pick up a set.

MML, I was just on TRD Parts 4U's site and looked up under the 2006 Rav 4 for wheel locks, and it lists the FJC in there.
But now these say for steel wheels.

Can you confirm if this is the correct set or not for the alloys?
If so, I will order a set from them.

At work now, hopefully this attachment will work, as I have no way to FTP a screenshot from work.

No go, pic is to big for an attachment here.
Anyways, go to www.trdparts4u.com and choose Rav 4, then 2006, then wheels.
Under that listing is the 5 lock set.

Personally I would just put a lock on the spare and leave one of the road wheels "unlocked". I can't remember the last time I heard of a wheel getting stolen, much less an OEM wheel. These things aren't $1000 a piece blingy spinners...

Actualy the factory alloys are quite nice, plus I will have some expensive TXRs mounted on them.

Where I live, if it is not bolted/locked down, it will be stolen.

Pager/alarm system is the first thing I am getting, even before new rubber.

Hi Guys!
Corey-The correct part# for the 5 lock wheel lock kit for the alloy wheels is:
P/N 00276-42960.
This is the number off the package that my locks came in. I am positive this is the correct set!!!
The TRD Parts4u web site does not seem to have this part. Call a Toyota dealer Parts Department and give them the above #.They will have it.
Marc
