Talking New Cherry Cruiser

Well, i couldn't wait any longer...i was going to wait on the 2008 models to hit the market but today i broke down and bought one. In the morning i am getting an ARB bumper (is this a one person job???) and i have a Warn m8000 on the way. Also, i am heading to Colorado this week and i actually swapped out my 4Runner tires/rims with the stock FJ's; the Runner has new 265/75/16 Dueler Revo's and i have a lot more faith in them than the Dunlops that came on the 17" alloys on the FJ. That said, i am experiencing a wheel/tire conundrum...i am wanting to install some 285/70/16 BFG AT KO's, but i hear the 16 inch rims will be slighly better (not to mention $50 cheaper per tire!!!) than the comparably equipped 17" rims. I am strongly considering selling the new 17" tires/rims and buying some new 16" TRD's to mount a new set of BFG's on. What approximately should the NEW tires/rims be worth ? Also, the TRD rims i found were $140 each delivered.
Thoughts/suggestions? I'll post some pics of the ride with the 4runner rims in the morning... Thanks.

Nice to see you pulled the trigger! Look forward to seeing some pictures of your new ride once you get back from CO. Mine's on order from the factory and will be ready when we head back out in August.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

With the bumper and winch up there, you will need a lift fore and aft or you will be a saggin' wagon.
I have the OME heavy duty ones up front, and the medium duty ones back aft.

As for the 285s, if you use the stock rims which tuck the tires in better than aftermarket ones, they may not rub.
With any aftermarket wheel they will more than likely rub, even with a lift up front.

I am switching over to the 285s soon, and I do not think I will rub since I have the stock rims.

Many FJ owners are doing the body mount chop to gain more clearance up front.
Toyota has these HUGE body mounts up front since this is the overseas Prado frame, and they should have modified this from the beginning.

Here is a good "how to" on how to do it.

If and when I need to do it, I have a fab guy who can do this, and I will print out the above and take it to him.
