need help w/options

I'm about to order the FJ 6 speed. I am contemplating over the TRD wheel & tire pkg over the base bridgestone's, also, whether or not the ugrade pkg is worth it or not. Can't see if active track is that good as opposed to a locking rear diff.

Any suggestions? Also, does anyone think the price will come down rather than retail waht dealers are seeling them for in time?

For the latter part of your questions, check out some of the other threads in this section, mainly this one.

Seems the A Trak is doing better off road than the rear locker is.
I ordered both.

The ATRAC is outta this world, basically each wheel slows down depending on how well it's gripping, more power is transfered to where traction already exists. It's basically a system that takes power from where it's wasted and sends it to where it's best spent (if that makes any sense). Really cool to see, each wheel turns at its own speed and just kind of leisurely wheels up the hill/rock/boulder or whatever. Essentially each tire has a mind of it's own. Honestly it's awesome but it almost feels like it takes a little of the challenge out of wheeling, but you can always leave it off.

Like Cory said, the ATRACK is getting great reviews.

Are you talking about the barebones black wheels?? Mine came with the silver 17" wheels, part of the upgrade package (1) or (2)....

For ME, the TRD wheel/tire package LOOKED great...but for $1850, thats a lotta green. Figure the tires go for $600 TOPS, and that leaves a LOTTA room for some rims. The TRD rims did not look like $1200 to me.....

For $1850 I would want the stock rims that came with the upgrade package along with the TRD replacements!

Here in California though, we got 85% automatics delivered. That leaves ME in the 15%....I did NOT want an auto. I saw a lotta FJ's before I got mine, they were all auto's, and came from the dealer with options I did NOT want...

I did not want running boards. or TRD exhaust...or front skid plate. It's not that I dont LIKE them, it's that I dont WANT them. I would rather spend the weekend doing one myself....but to each is own. I ended up paying for a trailer hitch I wont ever use, and an emergency kit of stuff I already have...and I feel lucky for finding an FJ with as little options as I got. (BTW: convience package and upgrade #2 is what I have)

I got a 6 speed black FJ, (as seen in my other thread "picks of black FJ inside")
and its fully loaded.

I think the A-TRAC comes with every 4x4 model. The locker might, too... not sure.
I dont think you can get one without the other.

Mine did not come with the base duellers, but with Dunlop Grandtrek tires. They are a little more aggressive. Not sure why it came with those, but we got the FJ RIGHT off the truck, so I know the dealer did not install them.

Yes, it can be ordered with only the convenience pkg and not either of the 2 upgrade pkg's which both include a-trak. Besides, I read that serious off-roaders won't use a-trak, but rather the locking rear & center differential which are both standard with the 6 speed.

Well, I cant say whether or not "serious off roaders" would consider the ATRAC system "cheating" or whatever, but I can say for certain that it is a serious off road traction system that works wonders.

Im glad my FJ came with all of it. Afterall, I can just switch if off if I want.....
