I heard from the owner of BajaRack today.
The bottom bracket will be extended to encase the bottom blade of the ladder.

They are in the works, and will be shipping probably by next week.

Update on why there was a snafu with the bracket(s)
Summary,

After reviewing all of the assembly fixtures and Q.C reports from the first built we found an issue with the top bracket, the reason we did not catch the problem was due to the fact that in my vehicle we left a top bracket that was the first prototype, this bracket did not have an alignment issue as the ones that where produce. We are going to replace all top and bottom clamps and speaking of the bottom clamp we added 0.75” to the lip to have a more secure fitting.
The replacements will ship next Monday 2-23-09.

Thank you all for your patience in resolving this issue, I have receive several e-mails with very constructive suggestions that we have incorporated on the new clamps.

Thanks LG, I do like the looks of it.

Having a few issues though, Sergio is sending me a new ladder.
Seems the holes are not lined up right on the top where it slips over the built in bolts on the top door clamp.

Plus I heard a clunk this morning.
The rear doors shock fell off the mount on the door side, not the chassis side.
I was able to just snap it back on.

What caused it to pop off was the bottom door clamp for the ladder.
The left side had slipped down some.
I was at the store picking up a six foot ladder for washing the tent top when I noticed it when I put the ladder in.

Fixed it, then I heard it clunk again driving home.
The left side since it had slipped down was pushing the shock off.
I pushed the lower mount back up and tightened it, and will keep an eye on it to see if it happens again.

optional ladder at tire location

I removed my spare and am mounting it up on the ARB rack. Then i designed a ladder to fit where the spare was mounted - using the same 4 bolts. It'll be tall enough to climb onto my roof rack, but allows full rear window acces and opening, doesn't obstruct the view out the back etc...
Hope to have my 1st prototype in a couple weeks....powdercoated satin black for now.
Next is an articulated arm to load & lift the spare onto the roof, and prevent theft
I design it & I build it so if you ever need something custom.... let me know!

Sounds cool Benz.

A brand new ladder is being shipped to me on the 17th along with a new lower mount that will use a bolt on it to lock the two together.
Still no drilling required.

My ladder has misaligned holes on top of it, they do not match the other four guy's who got their ladders the same time I did.

So it seems this first batch of ladders will be completely redesigned, to many snafus with the first run.

Yeah, as far as I know, there are only six ladders out there.
On the rig that BajaRacks owns, and the five of us early buyers.
This new ladder I will be getting hopefully will fix the issue.
Plus with the third design of the lower mount, hopefully this will prevent the door shock from popping off.

Thanks, I have really thought out the mods on this rig for the intended way I will use the rig.

New ladder and bottom bracket with a bolt will be at my home when I get off work.
Will try and install it tomorrow, unless my shop is flooded.

The current ladder was not drilled correctly, and the bottom bracket pops off.
The new bracket uses one bolt to hook itself to the lower part of the ladder, thus keeping it still, so the theory goes.
No drilling either, same as before.

Will see how this goes.

Sounds good, looking forward to the pics.

I received ladder number two today.
The holes on top of the ladder are drilled straight, not like in this picture of ladder number one.

Top bracket is the same, but you will notice that the bottom bracket has a flange-hole on it for the bolt to run through.
And the top part of the bolt has a lip on it that goes up and over the bottom part of the ladder, thus securing the two parts together.

I may get a chance to install this on Saturday if the weather cooperates.
Lately all we have had here is snow and rain.

I am hoping this solves the issue of the bottom bracket popping off, and also popping off my door shock where it mounts to the door.

Stay tuned...

The two pictures below are not of my ladder, but are of the new design on BajaRacks FJ Cruiser.
