The FJC in its current form will never come with a removeable top. Too much unsupported space for the doors. The 25-40s could come that way becasue they only had two doors. The distance with the 4 doors is too great. You take the roof off and there will be problems.

I don't see toyota making one with removeable top either. doubt it would sell very well.

considering the axles, housings, gears and lockers alone in that rig probably cost around 15 large, i think it will be a while before you see another.

AI, yeah i was just meaning it would be nice for the imagination. If it was a fully built rig then the unsupported space could be accomplished with a roll cage. But i know you know that.

i don't see toyota making one with a removable top either.
FYI: In the July issue of 4wdToyotaOwner: "There will be a special edition, even more off-road oriented FJ Cruiser released in the coming months, according to Toyota sources. This FJC will come with beefier shocks, BFG tires, new wheels, and possibaly more features to be announced. New colors, including tan and red, and also a convertable version, are also said to be in the works".

Theres been rumors about a convertable FJC before people even started owning them. If the above is true, then the talk about door distance, strength, etc. is just misinformation. To further imply that, Toyota is now advertising about how robust the doors/body are on the FJC. IMO thats a strong coincidence and implementation for things to come.

If "convertable" Jeeps sell very well then why not a FJ Cruiser? I guess time will tell.

Its not missinformation. Its true. The unsuported area would cause problems. As for them not making one, thats just my opinion. I suppose if they are selling well, then they might. Some changes surely would need to be made.

My opinion is also supported in a couple mags, when readers are asking about convertable FJC.

I am not, however, an automobile engineer, nor someone who has any knowledge in the area of vehicle stability and structure. I'm just commenting on something that seems to make sense to me.

Just to avoid confusion, since anytime anyone talks on the internet, someone thinks they are being sarcastic or mean or whatever, i am disputing your claim of missinformation, but not in a malicious mannor. I know you're a good guy, and you have a good point. I'm just clarifying my opinion.

a retooled , fj in a convertable would be sweet , look at what they did with the crusier fro mdodge , made it a 2 door and convertable , it can be done , now if they all came fro mthe factory like the ultimate adventure one , we'd all be able to laugh at the jeep crowd .

If you want more info, check out the ih8mud site. Plenty of pics and info there. Dynatrac Pro Rock 60's front and rear (no IFS, I don't know why somebody mentioned it still did), Atlas 4 speed t-case with cable shifters, 39" Krawlers, Fab Fours bumpers front and rear, coilovers (IIRC 4 link rear and 3 link front).

Facetious. Just a couple entries before IFS.

It is the Ultimate Adventure truck.

It is a mixture of great parts.

It performed well on the trails.

It has some new rock rash pretty much everywhere.

It will have the complete build covered in Four Wheel and Off Road, so stay tuned.

Was this the one being built by All-Pro? The roll cage looks the same, but the last time I saw it it was nekkid.

I had a feeling that was the Ultimate Adventure FJC. Is it just me, or does 4 Wheel & Off Road keep building the same truck for Ultimate Adventure every year, just on a different body/frame. They keep doing the same old Dynatrac 60s, BFG Krawlers, often a Chevy V8 (except the Ultimate Tacoma and Super Duty, I guess), Atlas T-Case. Althought the formula works well, they need to come up with something completely original (hopefully with Unimog axles)? It really is a cool FJC, though. Possibly the best I've seen.

I was thinking the exact same thing.

That is what a Cruiser should look like!

Looking at the side shot, it looks like the All-Pro front end setup (coils)

Of course they always have the same stuff.

Dynatrac is a king of axles, they do a lot of adds in the Mag and throw up housings.

BFG makes the premier off road tire. They advertise a lot and make a huge effort to get to the people. They help everyone out to tires. Notice how everyone on the trip except one had those tires? Who makes a better off road tire that you can put on the street. No one.

The truck is cool. A good showcase of how to build things when money is not an issue.

They use Dynatrac, BFG, and Atlas because they sponsor the "Ultimate Adventure". They probably also give them the parts to use on the rig, so if they hold up well to all the abuse they see on that trip it is even more publicity for those companies.

I was thinking about this and so long as they preserved the wheel speed sensors in there they could have.

exactly... but HOW is the million-dollar question. when they solve that one, then the SA swap on a 99+ Limited with Multi-Mode just got WAY easier...
